Bamberg Guards, Company A,
First South Carolina Regiment - 1861

Thanks to Sybile Pierce for her contribution of this roster.

Carey Columbia McMillan, a great-uncle of mine, keep a diary of the war & wrote his memoirs in 1917. Carey Columbia McMillan was the last of the Bamberg Guards to die.

The number of soldiers going out in my company, The Bamberg Guards was about ninety two. Twenty three of them surrendered at Appomattox. From the best information available, there are only eight now living (1917). So its seems I am one of eight of ninety two who went forth from Bamberg fifty six years ago in the cause for Southern independence. In fine health, with no ills or ailments at seventy four. My chances may be favorable to be the last survivor of the original Bamberg Guards.

For blessings unnumber showered up me all these years, I am more than thankful to him from who all blessings flow.
