CARTER CEMETERY
South of Branchville,  S C
Carter Family Cemetery

Located on Turkey Cut Road, off South Carolina Highway 362 (Hunters Chapel Road), north of Highway 521 (Ehrhardt Road) in Bamberg County, South Carolina.

There are more graves here based on the depressions.  Cemetery is in very bad condition with fallen trees, etc. Very heavy ground cover.  Would be best visited to get more accurate description in winter when foliage is dormant -  Ted Hightower. (Current owner of this property told me in 2001 that the Carter family slaves are buried around the perimeter area of the family cemetery. It is believed that there were three families on this road:   Carter, Raysor, and Smoak.  I have not yet researched the deeds. - Pat Sabin).

Ted Hightower is a descendant of a  James Carter and Caroline Tom(p)son.  His great grandfather is their son, Charles Franklin Carter who married Elizabeth Missouri Still of Barnwell County.  Both are buried at Friendship Baptist Church between Olar and Barnwell, SC.  It's uncertain whether this is the same Carter family.
