FLAT POND CEMETERY
On Zorn Plantation
Govan, Bamberg County, South Carolina

Johnson Hagood  Zorn set aside land on the old family Plantation to be  used  for a burial site for family members.  There was already a small  family cemetery on the property but it was not large enough or accessible  enough for continued use. Ruby Allen Zorn Jr. reclaimed  the cemetery, identified  the graves and replaced damaged stones.  The following is a list of all  those buried in Flat Pond as of August 2006.
 
JOHNSON HAGOOD ZORN
Born: August 16 1814
Died: April 26 1859
Son  of Henry Zorn Jr. & Ann Sobeski
Tombstone Inscription: “He was a good  neighbor, firm  friend
And above all, a consistent  Christian.
Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.”
 

REBECCA LUCY GRIMES ZORN MILHOUSE
Born: January 15 1830
Died: May  20 1897
Second Wife of Johnson Hagood Zorn
Tombstone Inscription: “Asleep  in Jesus far from  Thee
Thy Kindred and thee graves  maybe
But there is still a Blessed  Sleep
From which none ever more to Weep.”

Died: January 04 1904
Second  Husband of Rebecca Lucy Grimes Zorn Milhous

Died: March 04  1921
Son of Jane Catherine Zorn & James Daniel Rowell; Jane was a  daughter of
Johnson Hagood.
 

JANE CATHERINE “JANIE” ZORN ROWELL
Born: 1845
Died: April 14  1921
Daughter of Johnson Hagood Zorn & his first wife , Elizabeth T.  Zeigler
Originally marked only with a Wooden Marker with no inscription; R.A.  Sonny
Zorn Jr. placed a
stone marker on the grave.

Died: November 21  1898
Wife of W. G. Hutto

Location of Cemetery: From Denmark South Carolina take Highway 321 west to  Platt Rd.  Turn left on Platt Rd. Go about 1 and ½ miles on Platt;  after a very sharp curve to the left, begin looking for cemetery on Right in  a grove of very old trees near roadway.
