FLAT POND CEMETERY
On Zorn Plantation
Govan, Bamberg County, South Carolina
Johnson Hagood
Zorn set aside land on the old family Plantation to be used
for a burial site for family members. There was already a
small family cemetery on the property but it was not large enough
or accessible enough for continued use. Ruby Allen Zorn Jr.
reclaimed the cemetery, identified the graves and replaced
damaged stones. The following is a list of all those buried
in Flat Pond as of August 2006.
JOHNSON HAGOOD ZORN
Born: August 16 1814
Died: April 26 1859
Son of Henry Zorn Jr. & Ann Sobeski
Tombstone Inscription: “He was a good neighbor, firm friend
And above all, a consistent Christian.
Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.”
REBECCA LUCY GRIMES ZORN MILHOUSE
Born: January 15 1830
Died: May 20 1897
Second Wife of Johnson Hagood Zorn
Tombstone Inscription: “Asleep in Jesus far from Thee
Thy Kindred and thee graves maybe
But there is still a Blessed Sleep
From which none ever more to Weep.”

Location of Cemetery: From Denmark South Carolina take Highway 321 west
to Platt Rd. Turn left on Platt Rd. Go about 1 and ½
miles on Platt; after a very sharp curve to the left, begin
looking for cemetery on Right in a grove of very old trees near
roadway.
