This page is to honor those who made significant contributions to free access to genealogical and historical data on the Bamberg County SCGenWeb and have passed on.   I hope they know how much they will be appreciated by generations of genealogists.

Our dear Sybile McMillan Pierce, daughter of the late Mildred Free McMillan and Robert A. McMillan, Sr.,  passed on May 4, 2006 at her home in Sumter, South Carolina.  A service was held at Wise Baptist Church in Sumter.  Sybile's ashes will be buried and a marker placed in Shady Rest Cemetery in the Colston community in Bamberg County, where so many of her family members lie.  The picture above is what Sybile's sister, Helen, says was her favorite her high school senior picture.  I've always thought that everyone should be remembered as young and beautiful, so I'm so glad that Helen told me how to get this one. 

Sybile was known for her deep love of genealogy,  specializing in "lowcountry" South Carolina and her early McMillan ancestors in the old Barnwell District.  I knew that Sybile could always answer my questions about the histories of the old churches of Bamberg County, having grown up in the area.
