In the name of God, Amen, I,
Reuben Kirkland of Barnwell District in theState of South Carolina,
being weak of body, but of perfect sound mind andmemory, thanks to god for
the same, calling to mind the mortality of the body, knowing it is
appointed once for man to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament,
principally, and first of all, I do give my Soul to God who gave it to me at
first, my body to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of
my Executors. Nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall
receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and as touching my
worldly goods it hath pleased God to bless me with
this life, I do give my soul

First, I lend to my
beloved
wife, Mary Kirkland, all my land and plantation whereon I now live and my
grist mill, also six negroes, Isaac, Jack, Kifsah, Big Hannah and her child
Prince, and Lettice and her child Monday...Also one horse which she liked best,
as much household and kitchen furniture and plantation tools and as much
of other stock as she wishes to keep at her own
disposal during her natural
life......
Second, I give and
bequeath
to my son, George Kirkland, one Negro wench named Sue and all her
children. Also one Negro wench named Little Hanna and one Negro boy named Nelson. Third, I give and bequeath
unto my son, Robert Kirkland, one Negro boy named Jack and one girl named
Kefsiah after my wife's lifetime, also one Negro man Sandy and one negro boy
named Dengrane........
Fourth, I give and
bequeath
unto my son, Rueben Kirkland, one Negro woman named Annie and her three
children, also one Negro named Peter and Big Hannah's child named Jerry. Fifth, I give and bequeath
to my son, William Kirkland, my blacksmith tools
and six Negroes,
Penelope, Jim, Mark,
Annie, also after
the decease of my wife I give Isaac and Dennis.........
Sixth, I give and
bequeath
to my daughter, Sarah Brabham, one Negro woman named Biner. After the
decease of my wife I give Lettice and her child Monday, Big Hannah and her
child named Prince.....
Seventh, I give and
bequeath
unto my daughter, Lydia Thurston, two Negroes called Carr and Phyllis......
Eighth, I give and
bequeath
unto my two sons, George Kirkland and William Kirkland, my wagon and wagon
gears......
Ninth, after the
decease of
my wife I give to Robert Kirkland and William Kirkland the land and
plantation I now live on. Supposed eight hundred acres to be divided by a line
running from Matthew Maye Corner opposite the Ward
Plantation, then running by walnut tree in the field where the old house stood and a
direct line to the marsh of the mill pond. Robert to hold the lower part and
William to hold all of the upper part, except the profits of the grist mill
which is to divided equally between the two, and my gin I wish to continue
for the benefit of my beloved wife, Mary Kirkland......
Tenth, I give and
bequeath
unto my son, Rueben Kirkland, my land and plantation lately purchased
from James Price, adjoining himself with Thurston Matther, Maye L.
McAyer and Robert Chitty......
Eleventh, I give
and
bequeath unto my son, William, the mare called Liz and two calves, two sows and
pigs and ten head of stock hogs and one bed and furniture........
Twelth, the
remainder of my
estate not already bequeathed to be equally divided between my six
children share and share alike, except Robert, Reuben and William , is each of
them to pay out of their share one hundred dollars each. I do likewise appoint
my three sons, Robert, Reuben and William, to be my sole executors to this
will and testament. My witness thereof I have set
my hand and seal this 27th
day of March in the year of our Lord 1822......

and delivered by the above named Reuben Kirkland Sr. to be his last
will and testament in the presence of us who at his request and in his
presence have hereunto subscribed as witness to the same.

Will of Richard Kirkland
In the name of God Amen. I RICHARD
KIRKLAND of the County of Fairfax being weak of body sound of mind
___ and remembrance praised be God for the same doth make ordaine &
appoint this to be my Last will & Testament revoking and
disolving all former wills
& testaments formerly made by me & ordaining this to be my Last Will &
Testament in manner & form following as first I giveth and bequeath my sole into
the hands of Almighty God my heavenly father, hoping that through the
martrus death and passion of Jesus Christ my Lord and Savor for our free
pardon & forgiveness of all my Sins & to obtane a
joyfull resurrection at the
last day & as for my body to be buried at the discretion of my Exect
hereafter nomanated.
Item, I give and bequeath to
my son RICHARD Kirkland all my right title & claims which I have to a
track of Land Containing two hundred acres of Land being known by the name of
Browns Survey & lying & being in Baltimore County.
Item, I give and bequeath to
my well beloved wife MARY the plantation on which I now live & all
the Land belonging thereunto during the term of her natural life & after her
deses to my Son Robert Kirkland & his heirs for Ever, my Son ROBERT Kirkland
paying my Son JOHN Kirkland ten p;ounds current money of Virginia. Then all my moveable estate
I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Mary during the term of her
natural life & after her decease to be Equally Divided amongst all my Sons
& Daughters.
Item, I appoint my well
beloved wife Mary and George Collbard to be my Execrs. of this my Last Will
& Testament.
In testimony whereof I have
hereunto Set my hand & seal this Seventeenth day of November 1742.

County May 19: 1743
The last Will &
Testament of Richard Kirkland dec'd was prosented in Court by Mary Kirkland &
George Colbert Executors therein, and who made oath according to law & being
proved by the oaths of Thomas Smith and Francis Stone the witnesses thereto
is admitted for record & on motion of said Executors & their
performing what is usual in such Cases Certificate is granted them for obtaining a
probate thereof in due form.
. . . Contrary to the
testator's express wish, his estate was inventoried, and mentioned a debt
received from Edward Kirkland, who was not mentioned in the will. The final
accounting was 20 Oct 1743.

Edward Kirklin of the County of Granville in the
province of South Carolina,
Planter, being very sick and weak in Body but of
perfect mind and memory,
Thanks be given unto God, Therefore calling unto
mind the mortality of my
Body and knowing that it is appointed for all men
Once to die, I make and
ordain this my last will and Testament, that is to
say principally and first of
all I give and recommend my soul into the hands
of Almighty God, that gave
it, and my Body I recommend to the Earth to be
buried in decent Christial
Burial at the discretion of my Executors nothing
doubting but at the general
resurrection I shall receive the same again by
the mighty power of God, and
as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it
has pleased God to bless me
in this Life, I give devise and dispose of the
same in the following manner
and form, First I give and bequeath to
Exspearance Kirklin my
Dearly beloved wife her choice of the Jers__ Cows and
their Increase and one two
year old Heifer and one three year old Stear and
one two year old Stear and
one one year old Stear likewise her choice of one
of my Horses likewise one
Horse Named Bump and likewise one Sow that goes by
the name of Ginney Sow and
all her shotes and Pigs and one bay mare known by
the name of the Swaback
mare, her and her Increase, and one Feather Bed and
Furniture which she likes
best and the third part of the pewter, likewise
the third part of all my
Household goods and two old side saddles and the
wheels and carts and the
third part of my working Tools likewise I lend her
the use of one Negroe winch
Named Jeirbine during her natural life, also I
give to my well beloved
daughter Elisabeth Butler one sow, also I give to my
well beloved grandson John
Kirklin son of Joshua Kirklin my son one shilling
sterling to be paid after my
decease, also I give to my well beloved
daughter Mary Houston Forty
Shillings current money of this province to paid
of in truck by my Executors,
also I give to my well beloved grandaughter
Jimimey Kirklin one yearlin
Heifer, also I lend to my daughter in Law
Exspearance Joyce seven head
of cattle and Increase to her and her Heirs,
also I give to my well
beloved Son William Kirklin one Bay Horse Named
Streak and one sorrel Mare
and her yearling colt and her Increase, also I
give to my well beloved son
Richard Kirklin one Roan gray Horse and one
white Horse and all my
slaves that I have in the swamp likewise for the same
he must discharge a Debt
that I owe to two Merchants in Ebeneasor which is
Fifteen pounds sterling
money, also I lend to my well beloved wife
Exspearance Kirklin the
third part of the land where I now live during her
natural life and after her
decease for it to be equally divided between by
son Richard Kirklin and my
son William Kirklin the whole Hundred and fifty
acres also the swamp Land
being one Hundred acres I leave to be sold at a
convenient time to the
highest bidder and the money to be divided equally
between my son Richard
Kirklin and my son William Kirklin, also after all my
Just Debts and Legacies are
paid I leave all my Estate of what is left both
Real and Personal to be
equally divided between my son Richard Kirklin and
my son William Kirklin and
by them freely to be possessed and enjoyed by
them and their heirs for
Ever, I Likewise constitute make and ordain my
Dearly beloved Wife
Exspearance Kirklin and my well beloved son Richard
Kirklin sole Executor and
Executrix of this my last will and Testament and I
do hereby utterly disallow
revoke and disannul all and every other former
Testaments Wills Legacies
bequests and Executors by me in any wise before
Named Willed and bequeathed
ratifying and Confirming this and no other to be
my last will and Testament,
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand
and Seal this seventh day of
January in the year of our Lord One Thousand
Seven Hundred and Seventy as
interlined before signed.
