Sem Daniels Probate

Benjamin J. Ray et. ux. vs. J. W. Matheny, et. al.
Barnwell District, S.C.
Partition Proceedings, Filed February 15, 1861

Sem Daniels of Barnwell District, S.C., died testate in 1837; his will dated November 11, 1833, was probated, and it devised to his wife Mary Agnes Daniels certain slaves for life, with other property, and at her death same was to go to his two daughters, Mary R. Rice and Elizabeth J. Rush and their children.  Said widow has died, Said Elizabeth J., has also died, dying in September 1860, survived by her husband John W. (William) Rush, and the following children biz:  Mary Spears wife of Welcome Spears, Eliza Matheny wife of John W. (Walker) Matheny, Julia Free wife of Allen F. Free, Rebecca Kelly wife of James Kelly, Martha A. Ray wife of the petitioner Benjamin J. Ray, Sem Rush, Charles C. Rush, Lewis Rush, Caroline Sanders wife of Moses Sanders, Ella Rush, Sarah Rush and Elizabeth Rush.  Welcome Spears and wife reside in the State of Florida.  The said Caroline Sanders, Ella and Sarah and Elizabeth are minors.

Notes:

Some of Sem Daniels land bordered the property of my 3 great-grandfather James McMillan.  After the death of Sem Daniels my 3 great-grandfather bought the land bordering his property.  Sem and his wife Mary Agnes Rice Daniels are my 4 great-grandparents.

After the death of my 3 great-grandfather James McMillan, Allen F. Free bought the Sem Daniels property.  I think that it was about 204 acres of land

Allen F. Free and Julianna Rush are my great, great-grandparents.

Welcome Spears was the 2nd husband of Mary Rush.  She was 1st married to John Gabrell Free, the brother of Allen F. Free who married her sister Julianna Rush

Benjamin J. (Jefferson) Ray who married Martha A. Rush are my 3 great-grandparents.
