JONES - MURDAUGH - PREACHER

We are looking for some more information on John S.B. JONES, 1821-1892. His first wife was Mary Ursula MURDAUGH. We think she died in childbirth abt 1855. He remarried an Amanda J. PREACHER. We have a great deal of information on Mary and her family. We just found out Amanda's last name and that she was the daughter and sole heir to a John PREACHER. Does anyone know anything about her or John S.B. JONES. We have info on most of his descendents but are trying to find out who he was and who his parents were.

additional info from 26 Oct 1997 query
We have traced our Family back to Colleton County and have hit a snag. My great, great, great great grandfather was John S.B. Jones. He had a plantation we think was called Goose Swamp. He was born around 1822 and had several sons and daughters.
His offspring were Lazarus B. born 1844, Joesph W. born 1847, William Newton born 1849, Cynthia born 1850, Mary born 1852, Nelson B. born 1854, Charles born 1859. I'm the decendent of Nelson B. He moved to Adel Georgia around 1880.
My mother was in Walterboro in 1997 and discovered the information about the plantation that was around 12,000 acres. it was divided amoung the family or sold but not sure. Please contact me if you have additional information about the Jones family.

JONES - BROXTON - MURDAUGH - PREACHER

Looking for any information on John JONES and or his ancestors, siblings. We know he was born in 1821 and died and was buried at Cross Swamp Methodist Church in Colleton County, SC. He was married twice: the first was a Mary Ursula MURDAUGH and the second was an Amanda PREACHER. We have extensive information on his descendants that are in our direct line but little on the rest of his family. We have the information on his first wife Mary and her family origins but nothing on Amanda. John and Mary are buried in the "old" cemetary at Cross Swamp but where was Amanda buried? There is a James R. JONES buried just behind John, who is he? There also is a Jesse JONES that was killed in Tn during the Civil War that probably is his brother, if so, we are tied to the BROXTONs also. If you have any information, PLEASE drop us a note. PS. Cross Swamp Methodist Cemetary was originally the JONES-MURDAUGH family Cemetary with the Slaves plot in the rear. Please take a look at my sons homepage (link in query above) with our tree info on it, maybe we can help each other.
