Mrs. Adams was a daughter of the late Luther Ackerman and Essie Smith Ackerman.

She was a homemaker and was an active community volunteer, serving as treasurer of the County Home Demonstration Club and a member of the American Lund Association Boards at the local, district, and state levels for nine years.

Mrs. Adams served as the women's chairperson for Farm Bureau for five years, and was the first female member of the Framers' Home Administration Board. She was on the steering committee for environmental improvements in South Carolina, and alter served as chairman of the Beautification Committee in Gerton, NC. She was an active member of Providence Methodist Church.

She was the wife of the late Charles Daniel Carr Adams, they were married 57 years.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Daniel Carr Adams, IV.

Mrs. Millie Jean Crosby Avant, wife of Robert Neal Avant, died Sunday morning at her residence after an extended illness.

 She was 69. Mrs. Avant was born March 18, 1939 in Colleton County, a daughter of Mary Vernelle Varnadoe Crosby and the late Benjamin H. Crosby.

 She was a retired bookkeeper with T.D. Hiers and Company for 42 years. Mrs. Avant was devoted to her family, focusing her attention on them, and always putting their needs ahead of her own. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

 Mrs. Avant possessed a strong work ethic, but in her free time, dearly loved camping and the outdoors. Surviving, in addition to her husband of 50 years.

 There are 16 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Mrs. Avant was preceded in death by a daughter, Carla Reeves. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday in the Chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in the Live Oak Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to either Hospice Care of South Carolina, 134 Bells Hwy., Walterboro, SC 29488 or to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

Mr. Barnes was a retired heavy equipment operator with the Walterboro Pole Plant and was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a Baptist. He loved fishing, gardening and the outdoors and was a hard worker. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.   Survived by 18 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a grandson and 2 granddaughters.
