Lt. Colonel of the 11th South Carolina ,Army of Northern Virginia, CSA. Born in Chester, South Carolina and was a 1856 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He resigned from the U.S. Navy in 1857. Civil War service includes Captain and Major in the 11th SC Infantry. He resigned from the Confederate Army on December 10, 1864 because he was "desirous of returning to the Navy". Post war he was the postmaster at Walterboro, SC.
