When Madison Peyton Howell, Junior wrote his family history, he was elderly,  and dictated the contents for this booklet from memory to his legal secretary, Miss Essie Loper. She transcribed and typed the Howell family history but he was unable to proof her work.

This booklet was prepared by George Morrison in the mid 1980's from the original typing of Miss Loper. It is made available to the Colleton County SCGenWeb page by the descendants of M.P. Howell, Junior.  It is a wonderful narrative of earlier times in Colleton, Dorchester and Orangeburg Counties and mentions many area families.
