1. Sheppard Barnes, born January 20, 1883. Died October 24, 1893. He was named for A. S. Barnes, Aunt Sue's (sister of M. P. Howell) first husband and Governor Sheppard who ran against Tillman; defeated but supported and admitted by M. P. Howell. 2. Madison Peyton Howell, born March 28, 1884. (myself). 3. Carrie Ethel Howell, born November 25, 1885. Died June 23, 1909 in Augusta, Georgia, having married J. J. Zackary. No children left. Named for Carrie Ashley. 4. Edith Brower Howell, born April 20, 1890. Died June, 1890. Named for relative of A. C. Shaffer. 5. Leonidas Asher Howell, born May 31, 1888. Missing since he wandered away in 1912. Last heard from in Illinois in 1913. Given to drink. 6. Barney Kilgo, born April 5, 1892. Died October 1892. Named for two preachers, Uncle Barney, Baptist, and Mr. J. C. Kilgo, Methodist. 7. Sarah Katherine, born June 20, 1893. Married Mason Crum of Orangeburg. 8. Isaac Randolph, born July 16, 1895. 9. William Howell, born June 3, 1900. Died December 18, 1900. 10. Thomas Howell, born October 20, 1901.
All deceased children are buried in Live Oak Cemetery, Walterboro, South Carolina, their graves marked. He was 26 years old when he married the second time.
