Colleton County, SCGenWeb
Look Up Volunteers

Please note: These people are all volunteers, they have donated their time to help the Colleton County SCGenWeb project, and in doing so, have made it easier to find your roots.

Keep your requests simple and to the point.  Give as many specifics as you can in your request, such as names, approximate birth years, etc. to make it easier to recognize your family group, but leave out information that is not specific to your request.   Please do not the look up volunteer to copy and send you information  unless she/he has offered to do so.

Please limit your requests to one or two at a time so that others have a chance.  Also remember that these volunteers may work full time, do other volunteer work, have families or elderly family members to tend, homes to maintain, etc.  We all have lives that may interfere with prompt responses, so have patience.

If you have access to Colleton County research materials and would be willing to do look ups for fellow researchers, or transcriptions of actual documents, please let me know!

Thank you
Pat Sabin

Judy Ballard snoop@rcis.net has volunteered to do lookups in the 1790 and 1850 Colleton County census.   Please limit to two names at a time.

Gail Harris peaches@strato.net  will do census lookups from 1850 to 1930.

BEFORE ASKING FOR HELP:

Before asking for assistance, please do a site search or review census records currently online. You may find exactly what you need:  http://www.oldplaces.org/colleton/vitals/census_main.html

If you do not find your family already posted, be sure to check the census index for 1850, and give Judy the page number(s) where your find your surname on the census index, ie 184B.   USGenWeb - Colleton County Census Index - 1850

You may also want to check the Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness for other volunteers in South Carolina (other states are listed), or if you would like to volunteer for this worthy organization.
