Location: A short distance north of Old Wire Road, west of S-18-16, on dirt road near run of Cowtail Swamp.Established: About one hundred and forty-eight years ago, (John) Charles and Elizabeth (Valentine) Heaton chose the hill to the south of their first log home on which to bury their only little daughter, Gracie, who died about 1830, age 5 years, which was the beginning of Heaton Cemetery. This beautiful old cemetery beneath huge towering oaks has been fenced, is well kept, and remains a family resting ground to this day. (Above information from Mrs. Emma Walters McAlhany and Mrs. Sally Hill Weeks.)
Mr. James B. McAlhany and Donnie McAlhany were among the members of the Committee that restored and beautified Old Heaton Cemetery.
