The state of South Carolina 
Know all men by these presents that I George L, Clayton of Dorchester County in the state aforesaid in consideration of the sum of five dollars and the mutual affection to me paid by my wife Maggie J. Clayton in the state aforesaid (receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged) have granted, bargained, sold and released  and by these presents do grant, bargain, sell and release unto the said Maggie J. Clayton all that piece or parcel of land situate lying and being in Givhan’s Township state and county aforesaid containing One Hundred and Eight (108) acres more or less being part of the Mary Gilbert tract. Bounded North by lands of same tract now Thos. D. Johnston, South by Public Read River Road, East by Odediah Tuttle and Thomas Johnston, west by lands of Thos. Johnston and Clayton, the same being tract of land conveyed by Thomas D. Johnston to George L. Clayton by deed bearing date January 28th 1890. Also all that tract or parcel of land situate, lying and being in Dorchester County State aforesaid on the North east side of Edisto River containing ten (10) acres more or less. Bounded North by lands of Thomas D. Johnston, east by lands formerly belonging to George L. Clayton. South by lands of H. W. Clayton, West by Branch and lands of the Mary Gilbert tract. The same being tract conveyed by H. W. Clayton to George L. Clayton by deed date Jan 27th 1890. Together with all and singular the rights members Here ?ditarments? and ?assurtenances ? to the said premises belonging or in any wise incident or assertaining  To have and to hold all and singular the said premises before mentioned unto the said Maggie J. Clayton, her Heirs and assigns forever and I do hereby bind my heirs, executors and administrators to warrant and forever defend all and singular the said premises unto the said Maggie J. Clayton, her Heirs and assigns against me and my heirs and all other persons lawfully claiming to or to claim the same or any part thereof. Witness my hand and seal this eighteenth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety nine and in the 123rd year of the sovereignty and independence of the United States of America, G. L. Clayton (LS) Signed, Sealed and Delivered in the presence of Drayton ______?, Jno. A. _______, The State of South Carolina, County of Dorchester, personally appeared before me Jno. A. _______ and made ______ that he saw the witness named G.L. Clayton sign, seal and at his act and deed deliver the within written deed and that he with Drayton_______ witnessed the execution thereof. J.A.______. Sworn to before me this eighteenth day of March AD 1899.
