are welcome. I am Pat Sabin, and I
have been an active volunteer and County
Coordinator with the USGenWeb Project since
1999. My interest in DuPage County is
through my New England ancestors who
migrated west to New York, and then to
Naperville, approximately 1833, and my East Tennessee relatives who
arrived in the 1860s and 70s. This
site has been in existence as a personal
history site since 1999, but it just joined
the ILGenWeb as an official county site in
2013. I
also host the Kane
County ILGenWeb. Please bear
with me while I work to make this site more mobile friendly.
Although deeply
rooted in DuPage County, I live in
metro Atlanta, Georgia. I
regret that I am unable to assist
with personal genealogy research
unless it is related to my own.
I hope that information and
links included on these pages will
give you a good start. I
will be happy to add to this site a summary
biography of your family, including a link
to your GEDCOM if you have one.

The USGenWeb
Project began in 1996 with a group of
volunteers working together to provide
Internet websites for genealogical research
in every county and every state of the
United States. The Project is non-commercial
and fully committed to free access for
everyone. Read more about the History

Organization is by county and state, and this
website provides you with links to all the
state websites which, in turn, provide
gateways to the counties. The USGenWeb Project
also sponsors important Special Projects at
the national level and this website provides
an entry point to all of those pages, as
well.
Early History of DuPage County
In the early days
the Illiniwek, and later the Miami,
Iroquois, Sak, Fox , Kickapoo and
Pottawatomi Indians lived in this area,
rich in fish, game and vegetation.
In 1673 Father
Jacques Marquette and French explorer
Louis Joliet came to the area, following
the Illinois and DesPlaines rivers from
the Mississippi.
Trappers and traders
came throughout the 1700s and early 1800s,
the best known being a Frenchman by the
name of DuPage. In 1800 he settled
where the east and west branches of the
river join.
The first permanent
settlement was made in the fall of 1830
and the spring of 1831. Read more

NEW NAPERVILLE BOOK!
Author Jo Fredell Higgins' book about the modern history of the city of Naperville has been released by Arcadia Publishing. This book is in the Modern America series with color photographs. The history
of the 1960s and forward is featured with vintage photographs and
captions. Jo also wrote the 2001
book on the history of Naperville which continues to be her best seller
of ten published books. Mayor Steve Chirico has written the welcome and
former Mayor Pradel Emeritus has provided contacts and information.
Arcadia Publishing is the largest publisher of local history in the USA.
This is Jo's seventh title with them.
