I have so much gratitude toward my mother's cousin, the late Johnnie Josephine "Jo" Davis for the old photographs, good company, and stories about the Davis and White families of the Roaring Springs/Baileyton area of Greene County, Tennessee. Thanks also to Jean Newman, Sarah Clevenger, and Henry Haupt for their contributions. Thanks to Gary Davis for his continuing research on the Davis family of Greene County, Tennessee. I am so fortunate that my mother and I had a little time to talk about her family history. I wish she could have stuck around longer, because she would find all new discoveries so interesting! I have not been able
to connect her with a Shanks family in Greene County.
Although many of the names used in the family of Silas
Carrick Shanks were used for Elizabeth's children and
grandchildren, I have not found her listed anywhere as
his child. At FamilySearch.Org, I found the marriage record for Jesse Davis and Elizabeth Shanks, but it does not include her parents' names. Elizabeth was quite a resilient woman, raising seven sons after the death of her husband in 1864. Links To More
