![]() HISTORIC TOWNS & COMMUNITIES Gwinnett County, Georgia NOTE ABOUT
LOCATIONS: If you are not familiar with modern Gwinnett
County, a particular mailing address may not
be within the city limits of that town, and in fact may be miles away from the center of town. Here is a great reference site for historic maps of Gwinnett County as well as current maps, located at the University of Georgia. At the same site, you'll find an index of PLACE NAMES linked to historic maps where the towns appear. Auburn and Carl were part of Gwinnett County, but are now located in Barrow County (formed in 1915). I will add information on these towns as soon as possible. Sweetwater appears as a separate community on many old maps. The Sweetwater Primitive Baptist Church and Landers-Cain house still stand along the north side of Pleasant Hill Road, between Club Drive and Cruse Road. Although it has a Lawrenceville address, it is quite a distance southwest of Lawrenceville. I'm willing to add pages for extinct towns and settlements if you have any information to share! Also, you'll find photos and vintage postcards of some of these towns in the Gwinnett PHOTO ALBUM. |
