Marshall Field Retail Store

Architects- D. H. Burnham & Co., built 1902?, 
Block of State, Randolph, Wabash & Washington Streets.

Postmarked 1913.  From another postcard of the same vintage, "The building occupies almost a block square and is considered the largest high grade mercantile establishment in the world.  The firm employs between 4,000 and 5,000 employees."   Note the Masonic Temple to the left and to the right, across the street, is the Columbus Memorial Building.

"The Store for Men greeted its first patrons in the spring of 1914.  It is generally conceded by vistors from all parts of the world to be the finest establishment of its kind in existence.  It provides unusualy large assortments of the most exclusive merchandise and emphasizes taste and style to even its most moderately priced lines." 

The Marshall Field store on State Street  was bought by Macy's in 2005.
