Marc Koronkiewicz <masteko@fitzarchitects.com> contributed this information :  "The Stock Exchange was demolished in 1972.  That was protested for years.  Even the city council lobbied the developer who owned the land.  There was talk the building would become a government building but it never happened.  The interior of the trading floor of this building is in the Art Institute now."
