CHICAGO, ILLINOIS ![]() 19th CENTURY LITHOGRAPH IMAGES As time permits, I am scanning at high resolution lithographs of Chicago from several Columbian World Exposition souvenir albums. As with the vintage postcards, I am digitally cleaning the images and enhancing the contrast slightly. Most images probably date to the mid-1870s to early 1880s. Many street scenes show horse drawn street cars, and many buildings were new at the time of publication. Some buildings built between the Chicago fire and the Columbian Exposition had been destroyed before view postcards were developed. Some images are slightly larger than a standard postcard, and others are smaller. At a resolution of 600 dpi, any of these images will work well for publication. For best results, I would not recommend enlargements greater than 4 times the size of the original. Here is a fascinating video about the Lithography printing process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHw5_1Hopsc As time permits, I will upload a page for the digitally restored lithograph images. I'll list them here as I have scanned and restored them, and there are many more to come. If you are looking for a particular Chicago lithographic image, please ask. I may have it.
