Lt. Lawrence Pickney "Pink" McMillan, 

b. 1842 - Old Barnwell District, SC

d. 21 July 1864 - Near Peterburg, Virginia, buried in soldier's cemetery.

He served in (2d) Co. A., 1st Reg't, SC Volunteers (Hagood's)

He never married.

After the war, the family was never able to find his body.  His brother, Carey Columbia McMillan, buried him in the soldier's cemetery and marked his grave.  

Ginnea Charles, a slave, followed Lawrence Pinckney and Carey Columbus McMillan into the Civil War to take care of them.  When "Pink" was killed Ginnea Charles walked from Virginia to the Colston Community, Bamberg County, S.C. to bring "Pink's" belonging to his mother.  Ginnea Charles could have walked one mile & a half in Virginia and have  been a free man.

A tombstone in his memory was place in Shady Rest Cemetery by Mrs. Eleanor McMillan "Jack" Pate McMillan of Denmark, Bamberg Co., SC and Mrs. Sybile McMillan Pierce of Sumter, Sumter Co., SC.
