I realize that this photograph doesn't belong in Dorchester County, but  it is my
understanding is that grandmother, Maud Raysor, lived with cousins (family of John Lewis Gavin) in St. George while attending. Frank Salley was a first cousin.  Maybe a few other Dorchester County families are represented here, too.

The photograph above was shared by the Orangeburg County Historical Society . Thank you, Eric Powell!  The original photograph was in poor condition, but the scan provided was high enough resolution for me to do some improvements, rebuilding missing sections and increasing the brightness and contrast.  I would be happy to e-mail a copy of the higher resolution sepia image if anyone has a family member in this class.

Thanks to Harriet Imrey and Jacob Hildebrand for the information on Mr. Thackston:  Albert Jerome "Cap" Thackston (10 Jan 1869 - 13 Jun 1953) was the teacher and principal for whom A.J. Thackston High School in Orangeburg was named.  He married Lillian Phillips on 27 Dec 1895.  He was superintendent of schools for many years.

Eric Powell adds that General John Kennedy went on to win the Congressional Medal of Honor in WWI.  Judge Jerry Hughes was the president of the Orangeburg County Fair for about 50 years.
