James M. White had  eight children with his first wife, Susannah Margaret Yeager. The eldest, Adolphus, is reported to have died in 1864 (date of death and place of burial are unknown).  It is believed that the two youngest children of this marriage died as infants or children.

James M. White had  thirteen children with his second wife, Rachel Jane Campbell.  All lived to adulthood.  The White family is found in the early 1800s in the Lost Mountain area of Greene County, Tennessee.  The James M. White family and related families were living in the Roaring Springs area in the mid-1800s.  Many are buried at Cross Anchor Cemetery in Greene County.

Many of the older siblings and other relatives migrated west, primarily to Kansas and Nebraska.
