John F. Berry was born in 1848 in Hog Mountain, Georgia, in Gwinnett County to Prettyman and Elizabeth Berry. 

He grew up in the Hog Mountain community, and married Mary Jane Willingham (Mary Jane is the daughter of William Brooks Willingham and Francis Jane Thomas ).

He moved his family to Arkansas after the Civil War and bought a piece of land close to his father Prettyman Berry and brother Simon Berry.   

 

JOHN F. BERRY Born in Georgia around 1848 or 1849, died May 18 or 19, 1882. We learn that Mr. John Berry, a citizen of Archey Valley township, met with an accident last Thursday or Friday, which resulted in almost instant death. He was ploughing in a field near the house, took out his knife and cut a hickory bush, as if to get the bark for some purpose, and in attempting to strip the bark down, it gave way suddenly, the blade of his knife entering the inner side of his thigh and severing the femoral artery, from which death ensued almost immediately. He called to his wife and she ran to him and raised his head to her lap, but he only breathed once or twice after she reached him.
