CEMETERY INSCRIPTIONS OF DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC

Location: Within the Town of Pregnall, SC, on Road S-18-135 (Sand Ridge Road).

History: On the 15th day of September 1913 in Deed Book 21, page 348, SOUTHERN RAILWAY CAROLINA DIVISION conveyed to A. D. WEATHERS, W. M. MOORER, and D. J. RUMPH, Trustees of the ST. GEORGE MISSION METHODIST EPISCOPAL CHURCH of the County of Dorchester, and State of South Carolina, in consideration of the sum of One Dollar (gift); All the right, title, etc. to two (2) certain lots, situate in the Town of Pregnall (formerly Rumph), being designated as lots No. 1 and No. 2 of Square "D", shown on Map of said Town, drawn by A. deCaradeuc in July 1871 (map not found), each lot being a square of 200 feet to the side, bounded on the North by Way Street, on the East by East Street, on the South by lots 3 and 4 of the same Square "D" and on the West by Church Street . . . Being the same lots which were conveyed to JOHN M. Stokes, M. M. Clark, T. D. Weathers, and M. M. Way, as Trustees of the said St. George Mission Methodist Episcopal Church but upon a certain condition by the South Carolina Railway Company in 1871. A map showing the said lots is mentioned as being annexed (not found).

Extracted: "In Trust, nevertheless for the use and benefit of the Congregation and membership of the said St. George Mission Methodist Episcopal Church, forever." SOUTHERN RAILWAY - CAROLINA DIVISION Signed: A. B. Andrews, President H. B. Spences, Vice President Recorded in Deed Book 129, at page 151, on 16th June 1962: G. P. GASKINS and WILLIAM CANADY as successors to A. D. WEATHERS, W. M. MOORER, and D. J. RUMPH, as Trustees of St. George Mission M. E. Church, with the approval of the District Superintendent, Quarterly Conference, Pastor and congregation conveyed to MARION RISHER, CLEVELAND FELDER, RICHARD STEEN, LEON C. FERGUSON, SR., and S. D. BYRD, as Trustees of Penecostal Holiness Church of Pregnall, SC; the same two lots, No. 1 and No. 2 of Square "D". Burial restrictions in the cemetery were listed. In The Court of Common Pleas, P. KRAMER, Master for Dorchester County, on 13th October 1967, HUGO M. MOORER, JOHN R. MOORER, and ROBERT H. CLAYTON were the highest bidder at a public outcry of said property, Lots No. 1 and No. 2, of Square "D", at Pregnall. The owners of said property, HUGO M. MOORER, J. R. MOORER, and ROBERT H. CLAYTON conveyed to JAMES S. HORNE, SR., JAMES S. HORNE, JR., and JACOB A. JUDY, Trustees of CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH at PREGNALL; and a Certificate of Incorporation was on 3rd day of April 1973 signed by O. FRANK THORNTON, Secretary of State, which was recorded in Deed Book 210, page 125, April 14, 1973, in Clerk of Court's records for Dorchester. J. Richard & Helen O. Moorer Researched by L. H. Harley
