Location: About two miles from Harleyville on the Harleyville-Pregnall Road. The Canaday Cemetery, located about two miles from Harleyville on the Harleyville-Pregnall Road, was established in the mid-seventeen hundreds on a land grant to the Canaday family. A plat signed by R. F. Weeks, Deputy Surveyor, on Aug. 14, 1884 showed that 609 acres was divided between the children of Daniel G. Canaday, son of Henry Canaday and Rachel (Moorer) Canaday, who were buried in the cemetery which was already established and had "burial plots on high ground." The Cemetery and a portion of the grant of land has always been held by the Canaday family. At the time of his death, on April 27, 1979, all the bounding lands to the cemetery was owned by William Jacob Moorer, whose wife Dora Smoak Moorer is a direct descendant of Henry Canaday and his forebears.
