JEDBURG BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY

Location: Just off Highway No. 78 in the Village of Jedburg, approximately four miles North of Summerville, SC.

Tradition says that the community first gathered under a bush arbor across the road from the first church and near the home of Rev. N. B. Fields until about 1879 when Rev. Fields sold a Mr. Stutts land with the stipulation that he would set aside one acre for a church and cemetery. A one room wooden church was built by members of the community and used until 1963 when a new brick church was erected to the west of the Cemetery on one acre of land donated by Richard D. Mellard and an access road from Highway No. 78 to the new church was donated by J. Nathan Mellard. The earliest tombstone is dated 1882 and the earliest mention of the church is 1881.
