Dr. Connor son of David L. Connor and Rachael Whetsell daughter of John Whetsell and wife formerly Hutto were married March the 15th 1860.

John Bell of the Bend of Four Holes son of David Bell senr of the Walnut died April the 18th 1860.

James Cooner of the lower part of Barnwell disct on Edisto river, born on Edisto river in lower part of Orangeburg disct died April 1860 of dropsy.

Evan Moorer wife of J. C. Moorer and daughter of Wm. Saulsberry decd and wife Mary, daughter of Jno. Pendarvis Senr & Gov. died May the 10th 1860.  She was married only about a year.  Wm. Saulsbury disinherited his elder children who had worked for his property and gave it to his two youngest, and entailed it, Jno. will now take Mrs. Moorer's part unless she had a live born child.

Michael Durr, a relative, died in Macon Co., Ala. on the 23rd May 1860, he had been a minister of the Methodist church about 50 years, and was born in this parish of St. Georges.

Col. Alfred Shuler of St. James G. C. married Miss Julia Connor daughter of D. L. Connor, of Orange parish Cow Castle June the 10th 1860.

Capt. Isaac Wimberly son of Abraham Wimberly senr died of dysentery June 14th 1860, aged about 60 years.  He was married to his 4th wife, left children...

George Brady Schipley of Wilmington Delaware died at Georges Sta Dec. 2d 1861.

Mary E. Moorer & Peter L. Horn were married Jany 7th 1861.

Anna Murray & Jno. E. Strobel were married Dec. 31st 1862.

Col. M. E. Carn atty at law Walterborough died monday night the 13th Jany 1862, He was some older than myself out mothers were own cousins, he was a good lawyer and a very honest and liberal one.  Aged 53 or 4 years.

Noel Brownlee died in Nov. or december 1861.

Eugenie Murray wife of W. W. Murray & daughter of Geo. P. Bowman died Jany 1862.  She was young and had been married only a year and a few days, she and her twins all died.

Mrs. Elizabeth Horn wife of Jas. S. Horn was buried May the 4th 1861, died in childbed, & was buried with her youngest child except infant, She was daughter of Edward Thomas.

Mrs. Elvy Bell daughter of Jacob & Elizabeth Rumph and wife of Daniel Bell died thursday 2d May 1861 in childbed & left two infants.

Mrs. Seagler widow of  _____ Seagler died sunday May the 5th 1861 of epileptic fits.

Mrs. C. D. Evans wife of Richard Evans and daughter of Lewis & Elizabeth Dantzler died about the last of April 1861.

David Sistrunk son of George & Susanna Sistrunk died June the ___ 1861.  I think he was born in Jun 1812... with all his faults he had many good qualities.  We were cousins, and schoolmates for many years.

Brother William Gavin died November the 2d 1861 about 2 o clock P. M.  He was industrious and energetic, had good judgement and was kind and good.  No person can imagine the loss I have sustained, No brother now but Charles and he in Florida,

Mr James A. Williams died Nov. the 11th 1861, He was liveing with me and was the most industrious and energetic man I ever hired on my farm.

Mrs. Lofton wife of Stephen Lofton gave birth to a son Nov. the 22d 1861.


Mrs. Frederick Shuler, who was Mrs. Blackman, and a Miss Pye, of St. James G. Creek died on the 4th July 1860, aged about eighty years.

Wm. W. Murray & Miss Eugenia Bowman were married January the 3d 1861.

Hyram Appleby son of Jas. P. Appleby and Miss Summers daughter of Hessee & Daniel Summers were married January the 30th 1861.  Hyram Appleby married Miss Felder daughter of F. I. Felder first who died since the 22d of Nov. 1860.  It is said he married his 2d wife about six weeks after the death of his first.  It was 50 days.

Wm. David Connor and Laura Stokes were married January 1861.

Capt. Jno. Carr son of Dr. W. Carr and Miss Hannah Raysor were married February 1861.

Frederick Shuler lost his wife Mrs. Blackman July 4th 1860 and married a Miss Jones in Sept or October after,

Sarah C. Brownlee of St. Georges So. Ca. and Abner Jackson of Brazoria Texas were married in New Orleans Dec. 25th 1860, A. Jackson's first wife was Mrs. Brownlee's own Aunt.

Joseph Jennings of 41 Sta. So. Ca. R. R. formerly of Barnwell disct died Monday night Febry the 25th 1861.

Mrs. Hessee Summers widow of Daniel Summers and a daughter of ___ Rhode died March the 29th 1861.



Jas. Louis Petigru the able Lawyer of Charleston died March 9th 1863 aged over 70 years.

Mrs. Sarah C. Brownlee daughter of Jno. S. Murray senr. or Sarah C. Jackson widow of E. Brownlee & Abner Jackson & J. C. Moorere were married 1862.

Mrs. Sarah C. Moorer wife of J. C. Moorer gave birth to a daughter May the 1863.

Saml Staley near Rowe's Pump Orangeburg Disct died friday morning June 19th 1863 of Scrofula, he had been grievously afflicted with this complaint for about twelve years, his widow also has the same disease.

Mr. Rheuben Knight died under the operation of amputating his leg July 1863, He was a good Christian I believe.

Jas. S. Horn & Georgia Ann Thomas daughter of Wm. B. Thomas of St. James G. Ck. were married the latter part of Oct 1863, She is Mr. Horn's 4th wife & his 2d wife's niece.

Thos. D. Byrd & Elizabeth Harbeson were married the 3d or 4th Nov. 1863.  T. D. Byrd's 1st wife was Jacob [Several words blotted out]

Benson J. Howell & Elizabeth Warner daughter of Wm. Warner were married Dec. the  1863.

Judge Jno. Bolton O Neall C. J. died the last of Dec 1863.  He was a great and good man, he was in his 71st year.

I married Jno. A. Stokes & Mary A. E. Rumph daughter of Col Jno. Rumph & Catherine Rumph Jany 28th 1864

Mrs. Elizabeth Murray wife of A. T. D. Murray & daughter of Mary & Baltus Inabnet died Febry 15th 1864 aged about 50

Sarah Stokes widow of Jno. Stokes & daughter of Thos. Pendarvis died Febry 20th 1864 aged over 60 years.

Capt Thos Rumph of Beach Hill, St. Pauls parish and son of Christian & Elizabeth Rumph died Febry 29th 1864 aged nearly or quite 70 years.

Mrs. Summers widow of David Summers and daughter of __  Hayden hung herself at Rowe's Pump Orange Parish Febry 22d 1864.  Mrs. David Summers had died in the army a short time before.

Col. Jno Rumph died Friday morning August 19th 1864 aged 51, leaveing a widow & six children.

M. Sandford Horn son of Jas. S. Horn was murdered by two yankees on tuesday last 20th Sept 1864 aged 9 y 5 mo.

Jno. B. Earnest died Oct. 1864. He was all sorts of a man.

Jno. R. Moorer died Oct 24th 1864. No better than he should be.

Mrs. Jane Muckenfuss widow of Geo. H. Muckenfuss died Nov. 186_ (this is cut off my copy)

Maj. Joseph Hager died in Noxabee Co. Miss August 25th 1866.  He represented St. Georges parish six years in the Hou. Rep. and twenty in the senate, and was the first sheriff elected by the people of Colleton Disct. So. Ca.  He emigrated to Noxabee Co. Miss in 1838 and served for years in the senate of Miss.  He was nearly 90 y. old and an extra ordinary man.

Martha S. Gavin gave birth to a daughter Febry the 17th 1862

Daniel Bell married Rebecca Myers daughter of Gabriel Myers March 1862

Mrs. M. Knight wife of Reuben Knight & daughter Mary Daniel Hutto died of measels March 29th 1862

Mrs. Mary Knight wife of Reuben Knight and daughter of Daniel and Mary Hutto died of Measels the last of March or first part of April 1862.

Jno. Wimberly son of George & Jane Wimberly, and a soldier of Col. W. C. Heyward's Regt. died Jany or Febry 1862.

Middleton Walters son of Mozes Walters was killed by the carrs running over him below Reeve's Sta.  April 1862.

Daniel A. Knight son of Reuben Knight died April 25 1862 of measels.

Mrs. Sarah C. Jackson alias Brownlee who was Miss S. C. Murray daughter of J. S. Murray senr. and J. C. Moorer were married May the 11th 1862.

Lewis E. Cooner of Orangeburg Disct. near Branchville died a few days or weeks ago.  He was childless although twice married.  He left some grand-children by a bastard son, who was killed last spring by Wm. Barne in self defence.  He heired very little property, but accumulated a large fortune by industrious planting.  He followed overseeing until he got a start and then planted for himself.  He was dissipated, yet he made and saved a large property, and lived to a good old age.  He was very energetic in business although a drunkard, and also quarrelsome, but I believe kind when sober, that is he always appeared so to me.  July 2d 1862.  L. E. Cooner was the last of his brothers, they all got rich except the eldest Jno. Cooner, Frederick Cooner the youngest married a fortune, and abused and parted from his wife, Jacob made a considerable property, James also but he heired some from his father-in-law Isaac Minus.

Lewis L. Canaday, son of Silas Canaday & Grandwson of Silas Canaday senr. died June 28th 1862, leaveing two daughters.

Mrs. Caroline Horn daughter of Joseph H. & Louisa Howel and grand-daughter of Lewis Carn senr and wife of Jas. Sellers Horn died July 16th 1862, She was married to Horn about the 1st of May 1862, and was somewhat deranged for a while.  She always appeared to be a very clever girl, and I have known her since she was a few years old, her father, mother and maternal grand parents.

Lieut. Thos. J. Murray died August 6th 1862, of Typhoid fever contracted in service on James Island.  He was a gentleman.

Mary E. Horn wife of Dr. P. L. Horn gave birth to a daughter Oct 14th 1862.  Mary E. Horn wife of P. L. Horn & daughter of R. E. & E. Moorer died Nov. the 10th 1862.

Daniel Utsey of Edisto near Murray's church died November the 20th 1862 aged about (83) eighty three years.

John Stokes died December 3d 1862 of consumption

Jno. B. Earnest & Widow Noel Brownlee were married Dec. 2d 1862.

Mrs. Ann Jordan wife of Jacob Jordan was killed by a mule running away with a buggy fall Nov. & Oct 1862

Mrs. Sarah Rumph wife of Christian Rumph died in Cuthbert Randolph Co. Georgia Jany 1st 1863.

Francena Shuler wife of Lewis Shuler & daughter of Frank Carn died Jany 17th 1863, leaveing three small children, one an infant.

Capt. Thos. E. Raysor & Belzora Bowyer were married Jany 27th 1863.

Dr. P. L. Moorer & Martha Murray were married Jany 1st 1863.

Mrs. Elenor Shingler widow of Col. Jas L. Shingler and daughter of Thos. Bradwell died a few days ago in Christ Church parish and was buried at Target [?] church in St. James G. Ck. parish March the 7th 1861.

Mary M. Gavin widow of John Gavin was murdered Friday evening Nov. the 9th 1866 near her mother's residence ten miles below Orangeburg Village by two freedmen Ceasar & Owen, Aged 37 year 24 days.  Also at the same time and place their youngest daughter Ida Elizabeth Gavin Aged (8) eight years 7 months 6 days by the same negroes.  They were waylaid on their return from a visit to Mr. Thos. Stokes and killed with axes by these negroes who were in their employment, or that of Mrs. R. Shuler.

Dr. Morgan T. Appleby died suddenly April the __ 1867.

Mr. James George died May 10th 1867 of pneumonia.  He was over 70 years old perhaps 80, and had many good qualities.  When I first knew him 35  or 40 years ago, he was a poor man, but the So. Ca. R. R. ran through his land near his house, and made a Turn out, this made him rich, but the Yankees destroyed his property, like that of most other persons in the Confederate States, and he was again poor.  We held property guarenteed by the Constitution and the members of the government individually, but it did no good, it was taken from us, and we are all now reduced to poverty.

Martha S. Gavin widow of Dr. Wm. Gavin married Joel C. Warner August the 13th 1869.

Jno. D. W. Bowman of the Bend of Four holes was killed by a kick from a horse friday evening the 8th of Oct 1869.  He was over 60 years old.

Agnes Moorer wife of Van Buren Moorer & daughter of Wm. B. Thomas died Oct 13th 1869 leaveing two small children, one by Shocutt [?] & one by Moorer.

John Canaday son of David and Miss Durr daughter of Abraham Durr were married Nov. 4th 1869.

Mrs. Rebecca Shuler wife of Lewis Shuler and dauther of Peter Frederick died 1869 at the residence of her son Lewis N. (?) Shuler near Shiloh church Orangeburg Co.  She was born rich and was very old aged about 77 years and never moved until by the robberies of the Yankee or U. S. Government she was made so poor she was unable to live on her own plantation and by that did not die in the same house in which she was born and lived until robbed of her property.
